Trans Youth, Science, and Art

   1)      What do you think goes into creating spaces for trans and queer people requires in terms of mental structures, activities, forming bonds of understanding with non-queer people?    2)      Were the “science lessons” more about understanding the idea of sex and gender rather than in depth understandings of sex reassignment surgery    3)      The reading makes mention about differences in the brain due to hormones, and intelligible genders. Would you say that it is alluding to gender being of spectrum yet still between the male (XY) and female (XX) binary archetypes, or explaining that gender and how it’s practices are separate from binary entirely, explain?    4)      Why does free artistic expression seem to be a good space for all genders to be in, and what form of artistic gender expression have you’ve seen, if at all?  ...

Do it For All Your Pubic Hairs- Facilitation Questions

1. Do you think nationality affects a mans pride? How does it affect their masculinity? 2. The way these children talk about puberty makes them view it as a right of passage into manhood, however, those who lack the "process" are made fun of, do you think this enables the kids to lie about going through puberty in order to be accepted by the other boys? 3. Many of the physical games that contribute to "toughness" can be seen throughout the decades, when I was in school I saw the boys play these games, and when I volunteer at after school programs in HS I still saw similar games being played, why do you think this is? Is the ability to with hold strength a social construct that we have passed on to new generations? 4. Why is it that the girls and teachers are so easy to rebuke the boys as "men" but once they reach their growth spurt they are now seen as adult males? Does it feed the notation that physicality has to do with masculinity?

Why do they identify more with their Hispanic origins rather than their American roots? How would you describe/compare gender perceptions between adolescent boys and girl? Do you believe they are bold held to the same standards when it comes to looks and attitudes? Do you believe that the perceptions of masculinity is learned through home or the media for these young boy?  Why do you think this extreme practice of gender performance is due to the fact that girls and teachers see them as children? Is it a form of compensation? Why do you think there is a sudden shift in the boys' gender performance once they begin puberty? Why was puberty something they always talked about in the sixth grade, yet when they finally begin that stage in development, they tend to fall quite? Could it be due to the fact that females take notice? Or maybe due t...

This should provide everyone the flexibility we all need in these weird times. The exception here is facilitation questions, which must be posted anytime Monday. Office Hours: Just email me ( tedelfin@cpp.edu ) or text me (510.219.5554) if you want to talk and we’ll make a plan. Please be sure to tell me your name and which class you’re in. Your Questions, Answered. I hope. Where will we meet? Quizzes will still be on Blackboard, but our virtual meeting space is this blog. When will we meet? (Synchronous or asynchronous?) Asynchronous. You’ll get to drop into this class when it suits you, more or less. We will not be on a M/W/F 9am schedule. Instead, the rest of the ...
